Most people need roof work done occasionally, but rarely enough that you may not know what to expect. Preparation can help prevent frustration and anxiety. Here are a few things you should expect before, during, and after you get your roof worked on.
Expect noise
Roofers tend to do their work from morning to evening, and it gets noisy. If possible, it’s best to avoid being at your home while they are working—unless you don’t mind the noise.
However, if you work from home, it might be best to either take the day off or plan to work at a more quiet location. Constant hammering and banging can be annoying and frustrating when trying to concentrate or work, so be sure to plan ahead.
Expect a little mess
Another thing to prepare for is the mess. It gets very messy! If you are someone who cringes at the sight of tools and parts strung about, I would avoid being at home the day the work is being done. Once they’re done, good roofers will take the time to clean up every bit of their mess!
They should do a complete walk around the property, and you should, too, to make sure they have cleaned up everything properly. Nails can be easy to miss, but roofers typically have the tools to catch them.
Help the roofers out
For roofers to do their job, they need your help with a few things. You’ll want to make sure you move any vehicles away from the driveway. This helps avoid damage and allows you to leave if needed. If you plan on staying throughout the process and have a garage, make sure your car is safely inside.
Make sure the roofers have access to the front and back of your home so they can do their job without having to bother you. Something you should keep in mind, too, is your pets. If you have dogs that are not fans of strangers, it’s best to keep them inside and supervise them when let out.
