Before storm season, we always advise homeowners to have a plan—creating a storm kit, taking photos of your home, reading up on your insurance policy, and more. 

But, what if your house is damaged by a storm? What do you do after the fact? Many variables come into play when there is a storm.

1. Stay alert and be careful of surrounding damage

If you just had a huge, destructive storm, it’s important to stay on high alert for any damage that can pose injuries. Ensure everyone is safe and avoid broken glass, exposed nails, and other hazards.

2. Call a roofing professional

Before calling your insurance company and filing a claim, reach out to a roofing professional and have them inspect your home. You’ll want to make sure your home actually has enough damage to file a claim. 

3. File an insurance claim

If your roofer does find damage, it’s time to call the insurance company and file a claim. Land Roofing will typically ask the homeowner for permission to talk to the insurance company on your behalf. This makes the process less stressful for the homeowner!

Not only do we communicate with them, but we ensure that all damage gets covered accordingly and that they give you the proper payout.

4. Wait for the insurance adjuster

The insurance company will send an insurance adjuster to inspect the damage. Whomever you hire to inspect your roof, ensure they are reliable and trustworthy enough to meet the adjuster when they come.

After the adjuster’s inspection, Land Roofing compares our notes to theirs, and we provide documentation, photos, and any other necessary information. The adjuster will then determine the damage and report back to the insurance company to get the repair process started.

5. Enjoy your repaired home

Land Roofing will then schedule a time with the homeowner to do the roof work. We provide them with all information they need, letting them know what we will be doing, how long it will take, etc. We coordinate everything for the homeowner, so they only have one point of contact.

Once the roof work is done, we do a walk-through with the homeowner.
