5 easy ways to prepare for a roof installation

Roofing-yourself

No matter which roofer you choose, we want to make sure that you don’t wind up with broken heirlooms, frightened pets and destroyed landscaping. So here are some ways that you can prepare for a roof installation.

1. Remove items that are hanging on your walls

All that walking around and banging on the roof can jar the walls more than you might think. That’s why it’s important to make sure that any valuables you have hanging on the walls are safely stored elsewhere. Anything hanging on the wall could shake loose and break.

2. Plan for your pets

Some pets don’t do well with a roof installation. There are a lot of strangers around and loud noises. That kind of confusion and strangeness can upset your pets. And it isn’t exactly easy to send them out in the yard when there is work going on. See if you can leave your pet with a neighbor, or board it while the roofing is taking place. The last thing we want is for your pet to get injured.

3. Find out if you need to be home for the job

Roofing isn’t exactly pleasant for humans either. With some roofers, you may be able to avoid the hassle of a roofing projects by taking a short vacation. If a roofer will allow this, they’ll usually want to be able to contact a neighbor to get in the house if they trip a breaker, or need to access power.

4. Move your car to a safe place

Roofing involves several things that aren’t agreeable with cars, namely nails and falling objects. Furthermore, an open garage can be the safest place for a roofer to keep materials in case of rain. Keep your car parked on the street a fair distance from your home, or in a nearby parking lot if able.

5. Ask your roofer how they’ll protect your landscaping

A good roofer will plan ahead to protect your property. That includes any landscaping or other items outside of your home. But to be safe, ask your roofer whether or not they can make sure that everything is protected, and how they plan on keeping it safe.
